THE SEASON SO FAR

Santi Aldama’s first twenty games were defined by wild fluctuations in shot selection that dictated his entire value on the floor. When he abandoned his physical advantages to chuck bad shots, his team suffered immensely. During 11/07 vs DAL, he managed a respectable 16 points but dragged the lineup down with a dismal -5.6 impact score because he stubbornly settled for heavily contested perimeter jumpers. Conversely, his ceiling skyrocketed when he played within the flow of the offense. Promoted to the starting unit on 11/20 vs SAC, Aldama erupted for 29 points and a staggering +14.9 impact by operating as a lethal trail big and punishing late closeouts. He does not even need a massive scoring night to swing a basketball game. Despite scoring a modest 13 points on 11/28 vs LAC, he generated a +7.2 impact because his flawless shot selection and sharp weak-side defensive rotations completely suffocated the opposition.

Extreme volatility defined Santi Aldama's mid-season stretch, as he oscillated wildly between looking like an unstoppable offensive force and a complete liability. When he actively attacked the defense, the results were staggering. On 12/20 vs WAS, he erupted for 37 points and 10 rebounds, generating a massive +22.2 impact score through brilliant two-way dominance and ruthless shooting efficiency. Yet, that aggression frequently evaporated. Just two days later on 12/22 vs OKC, he lazily settled for contested perimeter jumpers instead of attacking closeouts, destroying his offensive value to post a brutal -8.1 impact rating. Even when his scoring volume was modest, he could still dictate games if he stayed engaged on the margins.
