THE SEASON SO FAR

Ryan Dunn’s first twenty games of the season were defined by a jarring tug-of-war between suffocating defensive flashes and crippling offensive passivity. When his motor ran hot, he was a game-wrecker without needing the ball. On 10/22 vs SAC, he logged a massive +12.0 impact score despite scoring just nine points. His value that night came entirely from relentless glass-cleaning and elite instincts that yielded a staggering +18.7 defensive score. However, his inability to stretch the floor frequently dragged his overall value into the red, eventually triggering a demotion to the bench. Look at 11/10 vs NOP, where he posted a dismal -12.5 impact score after looking completely overwhelmed by the speed of opposing guards and getting caught on screens. Even on nights where he hit double figures, like his 13-point outing on 10/31 vs UTA, a dreadful 1-for-7 shooting performance from deep meant his relentless rebounding had to work overtime just to salvage a +5.7 impact. He must find a way to punish defenses for ignoring him, or his offensive invisibility will completely erase his undeniable defensive grit.

Ryan Dunn's midseason stretch was defined by maddening offensive invisibility that repeatedly torpedoed his overall value. During an abysmal 01/07 vs MEM showing, opponents completely ignored him on the perimeter, resulting in a brutal -13.1 impact score. He dug an even deeper hole on 01/30 vs CLE. His 0-for-5 shooting turned him into an offensive black hole who ruined the team's spacing, yielding a disastrous -13.4 impact mark. Yet, when he actually engaged, Dunn generated immense value without needing to light up the scoreboard. Look no further than 01/27 vs BKN, where a modest nine points translated to a massive +11.8 impact score. He delivered a defensive masterclass that completely erased his primary matchup. Until he stops hiding in the dunker spot and demands defensive respect, his rotation minutes will remain a dangerous gamble.

Offensive invisibility and wild swings in reliability defined this deeply frustrating stretch for Ryan Dunn. Opposing defenses routinely ignored him on the perimeter. This fatal flaw peaked on 02/11 vs OKC, where defenders aggressively sagged into the paint and turned him into such a glaring liability that his impact score plummeted to a catastrophic -15.4. Even when his shot actually fell, hidden mental lapses erased his overall value. He scored an efficient 10 points on 02/26 vs LAL, yet a slew of blown defensive miscommunications still dragged him down to a negative -1.6 impact score. Fortunately, he salvaged his rotational minutes late in the window by weaponizing his physical tools rather than forcing his jumper. On 03/21 vs MIL, Dunn posted a stellar +8.3 impact score by using suffocating isolation defense and eight hard-fought rebounds to completely wreck the opponent's game plan.
