THE SEASON SO FAR

Cam Christie’s first twenty games were defined by brutal offensive futility interrupted by a single, inexplicable scoring explosion. He briefly looked like a legitimate rotation piece during an 11/06 vs PHX matchup, pouring in 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting to generate a massive +7.2 impact score. That out-of-nowhere surge quickly faded into a barrage of empty possessions and forced looks. Even when he managed to grab 9 rebounds on 11/22 vs CHA, his value cratered to a -6.9 impact because his abysmal shot selection and total lack of playmaking actively derailed the offense. The floor completely fell out on 12/01 vs MIA. Christie posted a disastrous -11.3 impact score in 15 minutes of action, tossing up an 0-for-6 brickfest that allowed the opponent to basically ignore him. When a wing player floats around the perimeter without demanding defensive respect or moving the ball, the hidden costs are simply too steep for a second unit to survive.

Cam Christie spent this twenty-game stretch drowning in offensive hesitancy, looking thoroughly overwhelmed by the speed of the professional game. His extreme passivity was glaringly obvious during the 01/14 vs WAS matchup, where he logged 21 minutes but posted a disastrous -7.7 impact score because defenders simply sagged off him to clog the lane. He briefly flipped the script two nights later on 01/16 vs TOR. By aggressively attacking closeouts rather than hesitating, he poured in 16 points and generated a massive +8.1 impact score to break out of his shooting slump. Unfortunately, that aggression quickly evaporated into a brutal stretch characterized by errant shot selection, culminating in a -6.1 impact mark on 03/04 vs IND where his inability to create separation completely bogged down the team's rhythm. He did occasionally claw his way into the green without scoring, such as his +0.6 impact showing on 02/10 vs HOU. In that brief five-minute stint, Christie tallied zero points but leveraged his length to contest perimeter shots, finding minor ways to survive defensively even when his jumper betrayed him.

IMPACT TIMELINE

Game-by-game performance vs average. Green = above average, red = below.

PATTERNS

Struggling. Christie has posted negative impact in 95% of games this season. The production rarely outweighs the cost.

Middle-of-the-road efficiency — shoots 45%+ from the field in 44% of games. Not automatic, but not a problem either.

Average defender. Christie doesn't hurt you defensively, but he's not making opponents uncomfortable either.

Small downward trend. First-half impact: -5.4, second-half: -7.1. Not alarming yet, but trending the wrong direction.

In a rough stretch — 7 straight games with negative impact. Longest cold streak this season: 21 games.
