THE SEASON SO FAR

Mouhamed Gueye’s early season was defined by maddening inconsistency, oscillating violently between tantalizing two-way flashes and long stretches where he looked completely unplayable. When given a spot start on 11/09 vs LAL, he erupted for 21 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. He generated a massive +13.8 impact score in that contest by hitting four threes and facilitating brilliantly out of the post. But that dominance was a mirage. Just weeks later on 12/04 vs LAC, another starting nod yielded a catastrophic -17.2 impact score as he went scoreless, completely stalling the offense by missing his only two shots and failing to register a single assist. He did occasionally find ways to contribute without the ball, like on 11/23 vs NOP where he managed a +0.1 impact despite scoring just three points, staying above water through relentless rebounding and defensive hustle. Ultimately, this erratic run leaves the coaching staff guessing whether they are getting a dynamic floor-spacer or an offensive black hole on any given night.

Mouhamed Gueye spent this midseason stretch fighting to stay relevant at the end of the bench, alternating between brutal offensive slumps and occasional flashes of dirty-work utility. His offensive limitations were glaring on 01/29 vs HOU, where a disastrous 1-for-8 shooting night resulted in a miserable -15.1 Impact score. When his jumper fails, he often becomes a severe liability, bleeding value through wasted possessions and poor shot selection. However, he occasionally found ways to tilt the floor without filling the basket. During a spot start on 01/08 vs NOP, Gueye managed a +4.3 Impact score despite a clunky 3-for-10 shooting performance because he relentlessly crashed the glass for 11 rebounds and kept the offense moving with six assists. He offered similar hidden value on 01/14 vs LAL, generating a stellar +6.2 Impact score while scoring just five points. In that matchup, his energetic defense and hustle masked his scoring deficiencies perfectly. To survive in this league, Gueye must bring that exact brand of rebounding and grit every single night.

This stretch of the season was a frustratingly erratic ride defined by brief flashes of starting-caliber brilliance buried under weeks of invisible bench minutes. Gueye occasionally found ways to tilt the floor without filling up the scoring column. On 02/24 vs WAS, he generated a robust +7.4 impact score despite scoring just 6 points because he relentlessly attacked the glass, grabbing 11 rebounds in only 18 minutes. He parlayed that hustle into a starting role on 03/21 vs GSW and delivered an absolute masterpiece. Logging 26 minutes, he posted 16 points and 10 rebounds while shooting a flawless 6-for-6 from the floor and 4-for-4 from deep, driving a dominant +12.4 impact. Unfortunately, the magic vanished just as quickly as it appeared. During a dismal outing on 04/06 vs NYK, he wandered through 8 minutes of action to post an abysmal -13.9 impact score, putting up zero points and missing his lone field goal attempt while offering zero resistance to stop the bleeding. He remains a tantalizing athlete, but you simply cannot trust a rotation piece who disappears this frequently.
