THE SEASON SO FAR
Terance Mann’s first twenty games were defined by a maddening offensive passivity that routinely suffocated his team's spacing. He occasionally flashed his true ceiling when he actually looked for his shot, erupting for 21 points and a massive +10.8 impact on 10/27 vs HOU thanks to elite shot selection and relentless off-ball movement. Far too often, however, he simply vanished from the floor. Look no further than 11/23 vs TOR, where a total lack of scoring gravity yielded just 3 points and a brutal -9.4 impact because defenders felt entirely comfortable cheating off him to clog the paint. Even when he managed to put the ball in the basket, hidden costs often ruined his value. On 11/28 vs PHI, his 14 points on efficient cutting were completely erased by a highly problematic defensive performance, dragging his impact score down to a dismal -6.5. While his hustle metrics occasionally popped, Mann's hesitation to attack closeouts ultimately turned him into a glaring half-court liability.
Terance Mann spent this stretch trapped in a brutal slump defined by extreme offensive passivity and costly defensive lapses. Even when he found the basket during the 01/02 vs WAS matchup, his 14 points were completely undermined by a -3.6 impact score stemming from significant defensive mistakes and foul trouble. His floor-spacing value entirely evaporated during the 12/23 vs PHI contest. Clanked perimeter looks and utter offensive invisibility dragged his impact down to a basement-level -12.4 that night. He briefly flipped the script on 01/09 vs LAC. Despite scoring just 8 points in that outing, relentless perimeter harassment and elite loose-ball recovery drove a stellar +6.8 impact score. Unfortunately, those hustle plays were rare exceptions in a rotation stint plagued by crippling hesitation, as his refusal to shoot routinely allowed defenders to freely roam and double-team other ball handlers.
Extreme offensive passivity and maddening inconsistency defined this brutal midseason slump for Terance Mann. He routinely vanished from the floor, hitting rock bottom during an empty start on 02/11 vs IND. Clunky finishing and complete offensive invisibility generated a disastrous -13.8 impact score. He finally flipped the script off the bench on 02/24 vs DAL. By relentlessly attacking closeouts, Mann poured in 17 points and earned a +5.6 impact score to give the second unit a massive punch. Yet, his most valuable performance required almost no shooting at all. On 03/27 vs LAL, he managed just 5 points but still posted a massive +10.2 impact mark. Active hands in the passing lanes and stellar rotational defense created immense value, keeping his team afloat without demanding the basketball.
IMPACT TIMELINE
Game-by-game performance vs average. Green = above average, red = below.
Inconsistent. Mann has clear good-night/bad-night splits, with scoring swinging ~4 points between games. You're never quite sure which version shows up.
Middle-of-the-road efficiency — shoots 45%+ from the field in 54% of games. Not automatic, but not a problem either.
Defensive impact is minimal for a 24-minute player. Not generating enough contests, rim protection, or forced turnovers to move the needle.
Performance has dropped off. First-half impact: -1.5, second-half: -5.3. Worth watching whether it's fatigue, injury, or opponents adjusting.
In a rough stretch — 9 straight games with negative impact. Longest cold streak this season: 9 games.
