THE SEASON SO FAR

Saddiq Bey’s first twenty games were defined by a volatile tug-of-war between brutal bench slumps and physical, highly productive starts. Early on, his tendency to settle for bad jumpers completely derailed the halfcourt offense, bottoming out during the 11/02 vs OKC matchup where he posted a staggering -10.2 impact alongside just 2 points. Even when he filled the box score, hidden costs occasionally dragged his rating into the red. During the 11/14 vs LAL contest, he tallied 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, yet still registered a -2.1 impact because his insistence on forcing contested mid-range looks severely damaged the team's overall efficiency. Fortunately, Bey eventually found his rhythm by embracing his size and attacking the paint. This aggressive shift fueled a massive offensive spike on 11/12 vs POR, where bully-ball drives and confident perimeter strokes earned him 25 points and a stellar +7.2 impact. When he stops forcing bad jumpers and lets his physicality dictate the game, he transforms into an incredibly dangerous two-way weapon.

This twenty-game stretch was defined by maddening inconsistency, bouncing wildly between inefficient chucking and dominant two-way explosions. During a frustrating holiday lull, he poured in 26 points on 12/29 vs NYK, but a barrage of forced shots against set defenses dragged his impact down to a hollow -0.1. Just days earlier on 12/26 vs PHX, a brutal outside shooting slump yielded a miserable -7.6 impact score as his erratic choices repeatedly stalled the offense. Yet, Bey flipped a switch in late January. He erupted for a staggering +21.1 impact mark on 01/23 vs MEM, torching the defense for 36 points during an absolute flamethrower performance from the perimeter. Even when his shot completely abandoned him on 01/27 vs OKC, he still managed to generate a +10.4 impact despite shooting a dismal 4-of-16 from the floor. On that night, elite defensive positioning and vital perimeter spacing rescued his overall value when he simply could not finish inside the arc.

A maddening pendulum of explosive highs and self-inflicted lows defined Saddiq Bey's midseason stretch. When his jumper was falling, he looked utterly unstoppable, peaking on 02/26 vs UTA with a massive +18.0 impact score fueled by explosive shot-making and a 42-point eruption. Yet, his raw scoring totals frequently disguised hidden costs. During the 02/04 vs MIL matchup, Bey poured in 22 points, but a string of costly live-ball turnovers plummeted his overall impact to a disappointing -3.0. A similar illusion occurred on 02/21 vs PHI, where his 20 points were completely undermined by a glaring lack of effort on the defensive end that resulted in a -5.5 impact rating. He could occasionally salvage rough shooting nights with sheer physicality, generating a +13.3 impact on 03/08 vs WAS by abandoning a broken three-point stroke to relentlessly attack the interior. Ultimately, erratic shot selection and defensive lapses made him a highly volatile weapon.

IMPACT TIMELINE

Game-by-game performance vs average. Green = above average, red = below.

PATTERNS

Very consistent. Bey posts positive impact in 86% of games — you almost always get a productive night. Scoring varies by ~8 points, but the overall contribution stays positive.

Middle-of-the-road efficiency — shoots 45%+ from the field in 49% of games. Not automatic, but not a problem either.

Defensive difference-maker. Bey consistently forces tough shots and protects the rim — opponents shoot worse when he's guarding them.

Getting better as the season goes on. First-half impact: +9.0, second-half: +13.1. That's a significant jump — could be a role change, confidence, or development clicking.

Hot right now — 11 straight games with positive impact. Longest positive run this season: 14 games.
