THE SEASON SO FAR

Luka Garza’s early season was defined by wild volatility, swinging violently between hyper-efficient offensive bursts and invisible shifts where his athletic limitations were brutally exposed. When the matchups favored his bruising style, he was virtually unstoppable. On 11/09 vs ORL, he bullied his way to 16 points and eight rebounds, generating a massive +15.9 impact score through absolute dominance in the painted area. Conversely, his lone start on 11/26 vs DET was a disaster. A complete lack of offensive involvement and agonizingly slow defensive rotations dragged him down to a severely negative -5.9 impact mark in just 11 minutes. Yet, he occasionally found ways to survive without filling it up. During a brief appearance on 11/05 vs WAS, Garza managed a +3.4 impact score despite tallying just two points because he anchored the paint with sturdy positional defense and active rebounding. He remains a highly situational weapon who can tilt a game with his touch, provided his heavy feet in drop coverage do not get him benched first.

Garza defined this twenty-game stretch as a brutally efficient bench enforcer, bullying mismatches and surviving on sheer hustle. Even when his scoring volume dipped, his physical presence dictated the flow of the game, best seen on 12/22 vs IND. He registered a massive +13.5 impact score despite tallying just 6 points because his flawless shot selection and dominant defensive rebounding completely controlled the paint. Conversely, his lack of foot speed routinely bled points on the other end. During the 01/15 vs MIA matchup, he dropped 11 points but posted a -0.4 impact score because his interior production was canceled out by defensive vulnerabilities. Yet, when deployed against the right matchups, he was an absolute wrecking ball. On 01/30 vs SAC, he bullied his way to an absurd +18.1 impact rating in just 16 minutes by converting 4 of his 5 shots and grabbing 8 rebounds. He remains a situational battering ram, capable of swinging a game through pure physicality.

This twenty-game stretch was defined by extreme, matchup-dependent volatility, oscillating wildly between game-breaking offensive eruptions and unplayable duds. He opened the window with a staggering +20.9 impact score on 02/03 vs DAL. Flawless execution from beyond the arc fueled that rating, as he hit all four of his three-point attempts to completely overwhelm the defense in just 20 minutes. However, when that perimeter touch vanished and his shot selection deteriorated, his value plummeted. During a brutal -6.9 impact showing on 03/12 vs OKC, Garza stubbornly settled for pick-and-pop threes instead of working the interior, ruining his overall efficiency. He finally corrected course by embracing sheer physicality late in the month. He absolutely carved up the paint on 03/20 vs MEM, pairing elite post positioning with soft touch to generate 22 points and a massive +15.6 impact score.
