THE SEASON SO FAR

Dalen Terry's start to the season was defined by chaotic, high-variance energy that rarely translated into reliable rotation minutes. When his motor runs hot, he can completely hijack a game's tempo without filling up the scoring column, exactly as he did on 11/19 vs POR. Despite scoring just six points, his relentless point-of-attack defense and disruptive deflections drove a massive +10.5 impact score. However, that defensive value frequently evaporates when his erratic tendencies take over. Look at his outing on 01/03 vs CHA, where a seemingly efficient five points masked a damaging -4.8 impact score caused entirely by blown assignments and late closeouts. Furthermore, his complete offensive invisibility often allows opponents to roam freely, leading to disastrous overall value like his -9.8 impact mark on 11/21 vs MIA. Until he learns to limit his defensive mistakes and provide even a baseline threat with the ball in his hands, Terry will remain stuck on the absolute fringes of the roster.

A wildly erratic stretch defined Dalen Terry's midseason rotation minutes, oscillating between game-changing defensive havoc and outright offensive sabotage. When his chaotic energy was channeled correctly, he was a massive plus. He completely derailed the opposing offense during an explosive stint on 01/14 vs UTA, generating a massive +17.8 impact score while scoring just 11 points by wreaking absolute havoc on the defensive end. Yet, increased playing time often exposed his glaring limitations as a half-court spacer. During an extended 29-minute run on 01/30 vs MIA, he tallied 9 points and 7 assists but still dragged the team down to a -2.9 impact score because his lack of offensive polish ruined the floor spacing. Errant passing and poor spatial awareness similarly plagued him on 03/10 vs MEM, where a -6.6 impact score reflected how severely he damaged the overall offensive rhythm. He remains a fascinating defensive free safety, but his erratic decision-making makes him a terrifying gamble for any coaching staff.

PATTERNS

Struggling. Terry has posted negative impact in 81% of games this season. The production rarely outweighs the cost.

Middle-of-the-road efficiency — shoots 45%+ from the field in 57% of games. Not automatic, but not a problem either.

Good defender on his best nights, but it comes and goes. Some games Terry locks in defensively, others he gets picked apart.

Getting better as the season goes on. First-half impact: -8.0, second-half: -4.4. That's a significant jump — could be a role change, confidence, or development clicking.

In a rough stretch — 9 straight games with negative impact. Longest cold streak this season: 9 games.
